Let us bring the play to you!
Schools, street fairs, community centers and public parks - all are great spaces to inject self-directed play. Our team of playworkers can come to you to host a pop up play:ground in your community. These events provide young people with the opportunity to use their imaginations to build and create through self-directed, loose parts play, and to make their own decisions on how to use materials, space, and time. Our pop-ups utilize found and recycled materials, including cardboard boxes, wooden planks, pvc piping, fabric, markers, string, tape, and more. You gather materials (we’ll give you some suggestions) and we bring the skills to make it successful. Email us for more information .
We offer playwork training to the public every spring. Join our playworkers as they go through 2-3 day training which includes principles of playwork, how to set up a site, risk assessment and dynamic risk assessment, and hands on playwork with kids on the site. Playwork has a place not only on junk playgrounds, but can be included in educational and institutional environments. We’ve even heard that playwork is applicable in the business environment!
Our training for 2018 will be April 28-29th, more information here.
We also offer private professional development opportunities.
We are on a mission to spread play around all of NYC!
Have a great space in need of a junk playground? We would love to help make that happen. We have a network to help get the necessary permits, the tools to build community support, partners to get the materials, and the knowledge to help train your own team of playworkers.
